ENGLISH: Background

Jörgen Lundälv, PhD, is a Associate Professor in Social work and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Social Work, Göteborg University, Sweden and also Associate Professor in Traffic Medicine at the Department of Surgical and Perioperative Science, Umeå university, Umeå, Sweden

His research interests include social work, social policy, disability policy, social living conditions, inclusive researh, public opinion, traffic injuries, social support, injury event, injury prevention, rehabilitation, education and research.

The current research is focused on five (5) substantive areas in the field of social work and social policy:

i) Interventions in social work, social policy and disability. Social living conditions for vulnerable groups and inclusive research.

ii) Injury events, accidents and risks in residential environements for persons with disabilities and elderly. Mobility and safety in outdoor environments.

iii) Physical and Motor Disability, and Long-term Illnesses (traffic injuries) injury event and mobility (rehabilitation, hospital social work, social work practice, social support)

iv) Social support, injury registration, Emergency Medical Vehicle Collisions (EMVC) and Police Vehicle Collisions, Involuntary Manslaughter in Nordic Road Fatalities: Frequency, Long-Term Consequences, Social Work Interventions, and Social Support in the Nordic Welfare States

v) Leadership, communication (risk and crisis), social work particularly on public opinion, opinion pieces and debate in the public sphere and social worker practice and ethical dilemmas.

His doctoral degree (1998) is from the Department of Social Policy, Unit of Social Work, University of Helsinki, Finland. His doctoral thesis is entitled Capabilities for welfare. Traffic victims´experiences and life – a drama of coping (1998). He was also injury researcher at the Accident Analysis Group, Department of Surgical and Perioperative Sciences, University Hospital, Umeå University, Sweden (1998–2001). During October 2005 he presented a oral research presentation at the International Conference Road Safety on Four Continents in Warsaw, Poland (scientific paper: “Involuntary Manslaughter in Nordic Road Fatalities: Frequency, Long-Term Consequences, Social Work Interventions, and Social Support in the Nordic Welfare States”). He has published in the field of Rehabilitation and Physical and Motor Disability, particularly on social consequences, hospital social work, perspectives of traffic medicine and social work issues. Lundälv has published articles in International scientific journals;

Lundälv is a frequent lecturer at various Swedish and foreign universities, institutions and international conferences.
Jörgen Lundälv is also attached and associated members to the Swedish Society of Medicine (Traffic Medicine) and the Swedish Society of Disaster Medicine.
